Holmen Paper’s paper mill is nominated for an Environmental Leadership Award

Holmen Paper informed that the company’s Hallsta paper mill nominated for Pulp & Paper International Awards “Environmental Leadership Award”.

Johan Abrahamsson, Hallsta paper mill manager, commented:

“We work hard with sustainability issues and we are today one of the most resource-efficient mills in our segment in Europe. Over the last three years we have invested over 20 MEUR in energy saving activities and projects. One hundred percent of the wood raw material is utilized, ninety-five percent of the fibres are used in the end product, the bark previously used as fuel at the mill is now sold for fossil-free energy production and the sludge from the effluent treatment plant is composted and sold as soil. Nothing is wasted.

Receiving the award would be a recognition for all our hard-working employees, but it would also be a strong message to our customers that we are in fact the most sustainable actor on the market, Johan Abrahamsson concludes.”

The Environmental Leadership award is a competitive award, and the winner will be a mill that has shown groundbreaking commitment to the care of the environment. According to the announcement, the winner, being announced on November 29, 2017will have gone the extra mile to achieve environmental improvements.

Earlier Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services upgraded Holmen’s credit rating from BBB to BBB+ on July 10, 2017.
